A catalytic project that will start producing green hydrogen & ammonia in 2027/28
The Prieska Power Reserve Project is a catalytic project that will start producing green hydrogen and ammonia in 2027/28 through a combination of high yielding renewable solar and wind energy resources, along with the other natural resources of water and air.
Well-positioned to be a key player in the global green hydrogen and ammonia market
The Prieska Power Reserve Project plans to take advantage of South Africa’s competitive advantage in the renewable energy market, through its abundant solar and wind resources, to deliver technologies for hydrogen production and ammonia linked to renewable energy, storage and distribution, and contribute substantially to South Africa’s socio-economic development objectives.
The Project plans on introducing competitively priced green hydrogen and ammonia primarily for off-taking by International and European users in agriculture, transport, chemical and electrical backup generation.
The site has very good solar potential with high irradiation values, and also has very good wind potential on the flattened mountain tops around Prieska.
Various governments globally are implementing policies to promote an enabling environment for the uptake of green hydrogen and ammonia.
Prieska with an abundance of solar and wind resources, can benefit from this expected growth in green hydrogen and ammonia.
